What to Talk About on a First Date?

Here are a few tips to get the conversation going on a first date that will also yield positive results.

  1. Find Out About Each Other’s Interests.

The best way to get to know someone is to learn about what they like to do in their free time. It might not seem like a very important topic to talk about, but when the objective is to get comfortable in each other’s presence, it’s probably the safest topic to discuss.

  1. Expand Upon What You Already Know.

Chances are, the two of you must already have discussed each other’s education, religion, and other important topics. It’s time to take those conversations to the next level and learn something additional. Perhaps, personal priorities.

  1. Ask Them What They’re Good At.

Everybody has some hidden talents and potential, and it’s a good idea to explore them on your first date. When people talk about their strengths, it makes them feel good and proud. It also helps to ease out some of the tension you might feel and get the conversation going in the right direction.

  1. Learn About Their Family.

While it’s good to talk about family, make sure you don’t many any derogatory or rude comments. Everybody feels protective of their family and relatives, so don’t make them feel uncomfortable over something that is not even their fault.

  1. Inquire About Their Friends.

When you want to know more about someone, one area that needs to be explored is friends. Anybody would beam up simply talking about their buddies and close friends whom they like to spend time with.

  1. Ask Them About Their Passions and Purpose in Life.

Not everybody has a clear direction in life, but it’s good to explore what they think when it comes to your purpose in life. It may open up more windows into their soul so that you can get an idea of their personality. You may also bring up what they would like to be doing five or ten years down the road.

  1. Talk About Good Memories.

Talking about childhood and amazing memories of the past is a good way to lighten up the atmosphere. Everybody has a story to tell or an event to narrate from their past, or maybe an account of their accomplishments. It’s also good to talk about where they went to school and what their idea of a good living is.

Dating is All About Fun and Entertainment.

So, don’t make things go the other way around simply by bringing up things neither of you feel comfortable about. The goal is to warm up to each other, and it should remain so. You need to find out if the two of you are compatible and enjoy each other’s company. If you feel there is no spark or anything that might give you a hint about your future relationship, you may decide to leave. There is no use to keep the conversation going when you already know the results.

Now that you know what to talk about on a first date, it’s time to explore some areas that you should never delve into.

There is no need to ask what they do for a living or how much they are able to earn in a month. Moreover, you wouldn’t want to make the atmosphere tense by bringing up religion or politics. Everybody has a right to follow their own path when it comes to religious beliefs and political inclination.

Arguing over what is right and what is wrong is only going to make matters worse, especially when it is the first time you guys are seeing each other. These things can wait for a more suitable time when the two of you have gotten to know each other better.

It’s also important not to ask too many questions on your first date. More important is to be able to build a bond that will lead to more closeness and intimacy later on. Listen attentively when they have something to tell you, and don’t act as if you’re not interested in a particular topic.

Both of you must speak up even if either one happens to be shy or nervous. It is your duty to make the other person comfortable and let them speak up their mind.

     The Final.

First dates are meant for showing genuine interest, especially when you want things to turn out in your favor. While it’s important to dress up accordingly and show confidence and poise, it is equally important to know what you’re going to talk about.

Definitely neither of the parties wishes to ruin the things simply by bringing up topics that make the conversation take unexpected turns.

Talk about anything you’re comfortable with but make sure you don’t bring up sensitive topics, such as those related to religion and politics. Moreover, it doesn’t seem polite to ask anyone about their salary or what they do for a living. And when you’re on your first date, it looks absolutely preposterous.

You should also make sure you don’t sound rude or blunt when asking about family or relatives or where they live. Remember, at the end of the day all that matters is whether you were able to make that connection or not, so these things shouldn’t matter anyway. All the Best!
