Have you ever gone to bed with a smooth face and woken up with zits all over in the morning? Does your skin look dull and ashy? Yes, you need a night skin care routine. Proper skin care before bed is important for maintaining smooth, healthy skin, and it isn’t that complicated.

Like all new habits, it may take time getting used to, but once you get used to it, your bedtime routine will feel incomplete without it. So, how should you take care of your skin before bed?

Let’s Look at Some Simple and Useful Tips.

Proper body skin care before bed is important because, during the day, the skin gets bombarded with all kinds of impurities like dust, sweat, and oil. Not to mention all the times we cause mechanical damage by constantly touching the skin.

By the end of the day, the skin is tired out from trying to cleanse itself. It needs to rest, breathe and rejuvenate itself. A skin care routine does all this, but for it to be effective, it needs to be done regularly.

  1. Cleanse the Skin.

The skin accumulates a lot of dirt and grime during the day, which, combined with make-up, blocks the skin pores. Even refined makeup, if left on too long, can harm the skin. This layer of dirt has to be removed before sleeping.

Cleansing allows air and blood with nutrients to circulate freely in the skin, nourishing and replenishing it. You should, in fact, do a double-cleanse.

First, use an oil-based cleanser to break down the complex molecules in your makeup. This is important because long-lasting make-up is made of complex polymers that do not easily dissolve in just soap and water.

After this, you can use a mild non-soap cleanser to remove any left-over grime. Once you’ve done this, rinse your face with warm water, remove possible last traces of cleanser containing dirt.

  1. Get Some Steam.

Steam opens up the pores and loosens the dirt, sweat, and grime on your skin. Loosening the dirt will in turn reduce the amount of cleanser and friction you need to apply.

You’ll save up on cleanser and avoid applying too much friction, which can lead to damaging abrasions. The opened up pores also allow the skin to breathe easily. Simply set your shower to very hot and step in once the steam builds up.

Try not to scald yourself with the hot water. After about two minutes, your skin should be steamed enough. You can then set the water to your preferred temperature setting and take your shower. Alternatively, to save up on water or electricity, you can soak a clean hand towel with warm water and gently pat it against the face. This will also loosen up any dirt and oil.

  1. Exfoliate the Skin.

The skin sheds dead cells every twenty-eight days, but sometimes the dead cells accumulate on the skin surface, resulting in a dull and uneven tone. Due to this, regular exfoliation is important for proper body skin care before bed.

You can use physical scrubs for this, which have the added advantage of stimulating blood circulation to bring much-needed nutrients to the skin.

Alternatively, you can use an alpha-hydroxy acid-based cleanser. The acid contained in the cleanser reaches deeper into the skin than the physical scrub and loosens the dead cells faster. If you get frequent breakouts, you can choose to use a scrub containing salicylic acid, which removes excess oil and helps prevent acne.

  1. Use Serum.

Cleansing and exfoliating can leave the skin dry and exposed. To protect it, apply a night serum to provide extra nutrients to rejuvenate the skin.

  1. Moisturize the Skin.

The skin needs moisture to thrive, so after cleansing and exfoliating, don’t forget to hydrate. This is also important for people with oily skin, as oily skin is actually very dry skin that produces too much oil to compensate.

Hydrating the skin prevents excessive oil production and lowers the risk of acne. For dry skin, moisture keeps it supple and prevents the formation of wrinkles. You can use an overnight hydrating mask or a simple moisturizing lotion to lock in moisture for the night.

  1. Use an Eye Cream.

The skin around the eyes is usually very delicate and can begin showing signs of age if not well taken care of. To prevent it from drying up and getting wrinkly, use an eye cream containing niacinamide, which raises moisture levels. Additionally, to prevent puffy eyes, use an eye cream containing caffeine.

  1. Drink Water Before Bed.

The skin loses water as you sleep. Drinking water before sleeping is crucial for proper skin care before bed. It keeps your skin hydrated throughout the night and prevents it from drying up. This in turn reduces the risk of wrinkles forming due to dehydration.

  1. Take Care of Your Lips.

Often, people have elaborate skin care routines, but they forget to take care of the lips. Wash them gently with a soft cloth soaked in warm water to remove dead skin, dirt and oil. After that, apply lip balm before going to bed to lock in the moisture. Do this every night, and you’ll never wake up with chapped lips again.

  1. Sleep on Your Back.

Well, this isn’t exactly an example of proper body skin care, but it’s important in preventing premature wrinkles. Sleeping on the side of your face can lead to the formation of wrinkles due to the pressure applied to the skin.

Sleeping on your back will keep this from happening and prevent fluids from building up under your eyes and forming bags. You can also use an anti-wrinkle pillow.

  1. You are Beautiful.

Be sure to always tell yourself – I am the most charming and attractive. Smile more and try to be as positive as possible. Carry a trail of joy and happiness. Your body will definitely appreciate it.

     Conclusion.

Everyone needs proper body skin care before bed even if you have naturally great skin. It is recommended to follow these steps on a regular basis to maintain that youthful glow.

As you age, your skin loses the ability to replenish itself, and even the most perfect skin begins to wrinkle. Develop the habit of regularly caring for your skin before bed, and you’ll keep those pesky wrinkles at bay.
